Specialist assignments for a defined question or concern: from ARC Validations to Investigations, procurement reviews and compliance testing. We establish the scope and reporting arrangements before examining the evidence.
You may need to check a return, examine a concern or assess the support for a particular Assurance judgement. We agree the records, people and period within scope, then select the tests needed to answer that question.

Specialist Review Work
ARC Validations
We validate selected indicators in Scottish landlords’ Annual Return on the Charter (ARC), tracing reported figures to source records and reviewing calculations, definitions and supporting evidence against the relevant technical guidance.
Identified discrepancies and weaknesses in the data trail, helping management address issues before submission.
Investigations
We undertake independent fact-finding into specific concerns, including procurement, complaints and financial controls. The terms of reference define the questions, evidence required and reporting arrangements at the outset.
A documented account of the evidence and findings, distinguishing established facts from matters that remain unresolved.
Assurance in Practice · Anonymous Case Study
Testing the Evidence Behind an Assurance Statement.
A social landlord commissioned a targeted review to seek additional Assurance to support compliance with the Scottish Housing Regulator’s (SHR) requirements for Tenant Safety and Stock Condition Data. The exercise examined the evidence underpinning its Assurance judgements and how this was reported through its governance arrangements.
The Requirement
Assess whether management information and supporting records provided a reliable basis for Assurance, and whether outstanding matters were visible to those responsible for oversight.
Our Approach
We compared documents and source records, used risk-based samples and traced how issues were recorded, escalated and followed up. We examined the evidence behind reported progress, including the basis for closing actions.
What We Delivered
An assessment distinguishing supported conclusions from areas needing further evidence, with prioritised recommendations on data reliability, action tracking and governance reporting. This set out the matters requiring attention when forming the Assurance judgement.
